From the desks of Alma's, Annie Evelyn and Alicia Dietz:
Hello everyone!
We aren’t sure if you have heard, but changes are afoot in the VCU Craft department that are negatively impacting the Wood Area. They have chosen to “pause” the MFA wood grad program and eliminate the sole full-time faculty line in the area. We are heartbroken about the news, but have also been uplifted by how our community has come together. And now, we would like to bring YOU together!
Sarah Mizer, owner of Alma’s Gallery and VCU craft alum, conceived this idea and is generously offering her incredible contemporary craft gallery for a VCU Wood exhibition.
As a member of the VCU Wood community we invite you to participate in Firewood, running from April 1 - May 16, 2026 at Alma’s Gallery located in Richmond, VA.
This exhibition will showcase the talent that has spanned over 50 years coming from the VCU Wood Program. Because this is a tight timeline, we offer a few ways to participate.

-
An online catalogue that will include headshots, work, and testimonials. We urge you to submit to this aspect of the show even if you are unable to participate in the physical exhibition.
We invite you to contribute to any or all of the available opportunities. It is important to show the breadth and depth of the VCU wood program.
A note from Sarah:
Alma’s is a small gallery with 1,000 sq ft of floorspace. Additionally, our current budget does not support shipping. We ask that you consider this information when submitting work proposals to be on view in the Galley. Artists are encouraged to share large or situational work to be included in our oline portfolio. Work that is on view at Alma’s may either be listed as NFS (not for sale) or available for purchase. Work that is listed for sale will require a signed Consignment Agreement.
