This series of vessels is influenced by the log cabin quilt block used on the Underground Railroad to signal safety to those seeking shelter along their journey of freedom. If you saw this block in a quilt hanging on a clothesline outside a house or on the exterior of a barn, you knew that this was a place you could stop and rest without fear of being harmed.
